Midweek Musings with Janelle

Hello to all my dearly missed people of Zion,

In an effort to try and stay in touch and provide some encouraging content, we will be sending out some midweek emails written by either myself (Janelle) or others. I’m sure these emails will evolve as time goes on, but my intent is to include a short devo or some hopeful thoughts and some resources that I’ve found encouraging.

Midweek Musings:
I for one miss seeing you all on Sunday mornings, and I especially miss interacting in Sunday school. We were just about to dive into some exciting topics in our study of spiritual beings, but I look forward to the day when we can pick that up again with an even deeper gratitude for our church body.

Today is Thursday (in case you didn’t know… I forget the day of the week regularly). More specifically it’s Maundy Thursday of Holy Week. With the current state of our world, I feel that there is an even deeper sadness to go along with the typical heaviness of Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. However, with that sadness, there is this hope that keeps flickering when I remember the celebration to come on Easter Sunday. Now, more than ever, we can find true joy and peace in the events that we celebrate this week. My prayer is that in each home and family that is represented in our Zion family we will celebrate with confidence the resurrection and what that means for us in a new way in this uncertain time. The kingdom is still indeed coming and being spread in the midst of social distancing and quarantines. I don’t know about you, but that is a very exciting reality. So, to borrow the words of a wise man, “courage, dear heart.”

Resources

Recently I’ve been challenged in some new ways by listening to sermons by Timothy Keller. Gospel in Life has a podcast (available on Spotify or iTunes) that puts out a sermon every couple of days, and this week they’ve been putting out some of his past sermons on Holy Week. These sermons have deeply challenged me on how I view my own sin and my understanding of the grace of God. It’s some good stuff. Here’s a link to the website as well

Stay safe and healthy 🙂
