Midweek Musings with Janelle

Greetings and Salutations Zion family,

I hope this email finds you all healthy and well this week. It was so good to “see” most of you on our Sunday Easter service. I must admit it brought some tears to my eyes as I watched. It seems like kids have grown at an alarming rate in the past month. I am so blessed to be a part of this church family.
Midweek Musing:
This week I was doing some reading from a book of poetry by the one and only Wendell Berry and was encouraged by the following excerpt from his sabbath poems:
For we are fallen like the trees, our peace
Broken, and so we must
Love where we cannot trust,
Trust where we cannot know,
And must await the wayward-coming grace
That joins living and dead.
Taking us where we would not go-
Into the boundless dark.
When what was made has been unmade
The Maker comes to His work
The last two lines have especially stuck with me. I don’t know about you, but when I look at the news and face all the uncertainty of these times, I feel like there are a lot of things being “unmade”. The normal parts of life have quickly been taken away. For example, you begin to realize how much you took for granted seeing the bottom half of a person’s face while your out grocery shopping.
Life is not normal right now.
However, The Maker comes to His work.

Now, more than ever I am so thankful for the faithfulness of God. I am already seeing the evidence of the Maker coming to do his work in the midst of brokenness. You don’t have to look far to see it. We serve a God that is in control, and is in the process of restoring his creation to be as he originally intended. He’s making all things new and we can be a part of it! Whether you realize it or not, you are still being used to spread the kingdom even in quarantine and from an acceptable social distance. That won’t stop the spread of the kingdom. That’s good news folks. So my prayer for myself and for you all is that we will choose to engage and be a part of the good work that is taking place during this time.

If you have missed your weekly interaction with the bible project via Sunday School, I would encourage you to check out the podcast series that they have been working on lately. For the last 5 episodes they’ve been discussing parables and breaking them down. It’s fascinating and I promise you won’t be able to look at the parables (and not just the ones that Jesus uses) the same way. Here’s a link:

Also, this past week in celebration of Easter, Andrew Peterson put out a video concert. It’s a moving concert with profound songs of hope and will be sure to bless and encourage you in this Easter season. Here’s the link:
Miss you all. Stay safe and healthy 🙂
